Note: On January 8, 2023, the members of Wilmington Island UMC voted to disaffiliate from the United Methodist Church. Our mission and our beliefs remain unchanged. The disaffiliation process will not be complete until voted upon by the South Georgia Conference of the UMC on May 21, 2023. Until that time, we continue to abide by the rules and operational procedures of the UMC as outlined in the Book of Discipline.
Our Mission
The Mission of Wilmington Island United Methodist Church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ by inviting, incorporating, nurturing, and serving.
What We Believe
First and foremost, we believe in the Holy Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, Jesus Christ, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Bible is God's inspired Word for us in this world.
We believe that Jesus died an atoning death on the cross of Calvary to pay the price for all humanity’s sin. Jesus’ death was an act of love that displays God's love for all humanity. We accept this gift of forgiveness by confessing our sins, turning from our sins toward God (repentance), and we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of our life. Then as Christians we begin to follow Jesus' teachings, which is called discipleship.
We believe God is able to forgive all our sins and that we may invite all people to God's forgiveness.
Our Church
Wilmington Island United Methodist Church (WIUMC) was established in 1959 and operates as one of the many churches in the Worldwide United Methodist Connection.
WIUMC is a part of the Coastal District in the United Methodist Church's South Georgia Conference. The Coastal District of the South Georgia Conference is led by District Superintendent Rev. David Thompson, and is comprised of 11 counties - Camden, Charlton, Brantley, Glynn, Wayne, Long, McIntosh, Liberty, Bryan, Chatham, and Effingham.
THROUGH PRAYER, WORSHIP, FELLOWSHIP AND EVANGELISM WE SEEK TO SERVE OUR COMMUNITY AND SHARE GOD'S GRACE AND GLORY TO ALL WE COME IN CONTACT WITH.
